Recall-Prone Foods

Leafy Greens

E. coli and listeria plague leafy vegetables. Since many leafy greens like romaine lettuce and packaged salads aren't cooked, they're more likely to kill you than prepared meals.

Soft cheeses

Listeria causes cheese recalls. Listeria may infect any cheese. The CDC says soft cheeses are more likely to be contaminated due to their unique properties.

Smoked Meats

Preserved and smoked meats are plagued by listeria. Cooking, fermenting, or drying meat should destroy listeria.

Ground beef

E. coli causes ground beef recalls. The slaughterhouse may transmit E. coli from a cow's intestines to its flesh.

Flour

Flour recalls are regular. Due to egg germs, most people don't consume raw cookie dough or lick cake batter off beaters.

Seafood

Over 2,400 seafood recalls were issued between 2002 and 2022, according to a report published in the Journal of Food Protection in 2023.
